Dressed stone and carving
A surround, a cornice, a lintel: this is where a restoration is judged. The new profile must follow the old moulding exactly — otherwise you have repaired, not restored.

How we go about it
- Record before taking down. Before we touch a moulded element, we record its profile. It is remade from a template: the new work follows the original moulding exactly.
- The same stone. A replacement stone must be of the same type, the same colour and the same grain as the one it replaces. Otherwise the repair shows from the first rainfall.
- The hand, on site. Part of the cutting is done on site, by hand. That is what allows a stone to be fitted to a wall that is never quite straight.
