Lime renders
On an old house, render is not paint: it protects the wall and lets it breathe. A cement render traps the moisture, and in the end the wall pushes it off. Lime works with the wall.
What we do

- Repairing cracks in lime-based mortar
- Lime render, plain or structured, applied in several coats
- Float or sponge finish, depending on the look you want
- Repairs to génoise eaves (the traditional courses of tiles under the roof edge) and to surrounds
How we go about it
- First, see the wall. Stripping lays the masonry bare. That is when you find what the old render was hiding: cracks, loose stones, cement repairs. It is done with care, according to the condition of the walls.
- Repair before rendering. Cracks are repaired, joints raked out and redone, stones set back in place. The render comes after — never to cover things up.
- Coats, not a coat. A lime render is applied in several coats, with drying time between each. It takes longer than a ready-mixed render, and it is what makes it last. Where needed, the render is applied in multiple coats, crossed and reinforced.
