Roofing and chimneys
An old roof is rarely redone in one go: it is repaired where the water gets in, whether it is covered with old tiles or with canal tiles.
What we do
- Roof timbers
- Canal-tile roofs: old tiles re-used after checking, or new tiles
- Chimney stacks repaired or rebuilt
- Flashings and weatherproofing where the stacks meet the roof
- Génoise eaves (the traditional courses of tiles under the roof edge)
- Fireplaces
How we go about it
- Keep the old tiles. Old canal tiles have neither the same curve nor the same colour as new ones. We take them down, check them one by one, clean them and lay them back, giving priority to the places where they show.
- The point nobody looks at. The junction between a chimney stack and the roof covering is the first place where water gets in. It is repaired by hand, and it only shows once the scaffolding comes down.
- Every trade under one roof. Roof timbers, roof covering, the masonry of the stack: one firm, one point of contact.
